Finding the best price for gifts you want can be a difficult challenge. More and more retailers are turning to e-commerce and online shops to promote their goods. The problem now appears to be the volume of shops available, jumping from site to site searching for the best price. Which shop is the cheapest? How do I know the shop is any good? These are all questions we have asked ourselves. This is now beginning to be a problem for other services such as Travel, Banking/Money and Insurance. Again, you have so many choices but which one is actually the best value or will be the cheapest? This is where the benefits of a price comparison site come into their own as they do all of the work! Search Most comparison pricing sites allow you to enter the specific item you want for example – an iPod Nano. The comparison site will then search for the product from a wide range of merchants. Once it has returned all of the prices they will be shown in a list so that you may choose the cheapest option. How does this work? All of the merchants registered with the comparison site will provide a list of products which will be stored in a database. Thus when a customer searches for a product or service it will actually search the sites database first. Then once the customer clicks the link they will be transferred to relevant page to purchase. What else can I compare prices on? Some comparison sites target specific categories such as books or electronics but more recently a number of them have introduced comparisons across numerous services such as Travel, Banking/Money and Insurance. This makes searching a lot easier, saves you money and saves you time. For example, if you are looking for a holiday for a family of 5 – rather than going to the local travel agency or booking it with one supplier why not compare prices across numerous suppliers? A similar example can be used for loans, enter your details once and let the comparison site find the best deals for you to choose from. More recent service comparisons also include energy comparisons, broadband comparisons and even mobile phone comparisons. What does the future hold for comparison sites? There many other services that could be compared and I’m sure the current comparison sites will be looking to compare these also. Looking forward, I predict there will be some consolidation of the big comparison sites. I also think that there will be an element of forward integration whereas the suppliers of goods will sell direct onto the comparison sites rather than having their own sites.
