New Jersey is a neighbor to the big city of Manhattan which often causes it to be overshadowed. This dynamic has caused New Yorkers to view citizens of New Jersey as less superior citizens. There are many explanations for this perception New Yorkers have about New Jersey. Living in New York City is extremely expensive while New Jersey maintains affordable living prices. Citizens of New Jersey also commute into New York City for the greater wages even if they can't afford the million dollar apartments. The commute is worth it because they save money on their apartment in New Jersey. But actually, New Jersey residents have no reason to be jealous of their New York counterparts. New Jersey is a state that has a lot to offer both residents and visitors. Listed below are a few of the reasons why New Jersey is a wonderful place to call home and a respectable state on its own despite its big neighbor known as the Big Apple. Atlantic City might be the first thing you think of when someone mentions New Jersey. That is wonderful. Casinos currently dominate Atlantic City, but this wasn't always true. Casinos were not approved in Atlantic City until as late as 1976. Casinos were approved as means to revamp the economy because the manufacturing base pretty much no longer existed in the area. Nearly thirty years later Atlantic City has a deep casino landscape. A major casino in Atlantic City is the Trump Taj Mahal Casino. This casino draws in New Yorkers on a daily basis. Atlantic city is known as place where many people come to play. Another standard of Atlantic City that brings tourists to the area every year is the infamous boardwalk. The Atlantic City Boardwalk is lined with casinos, amusement rides, and host of restaurants and other happening hot spots. The beach borders the boardwalk for six miles and is a fun spot for the hot summer days. Many New Yorkers spend time at this beach to relax. Atlantic City also has the Miss America Pageant that is a huge evnt in the state of New Jersey and is watched by citizens of every state. Manhattan is the home to many great institutions of higher education including Columbia University. However, New Jersey also has top notch universities as well. Highly regarded Princeton University calls New Jersey home. Princeton, along with other great colleges and universities, is a destination for some of the brightest students around the globe. While New Jersey is perceived to be in the backdrop of the great city of Manhattan, it is still a wonder in its own right. Many New Jersey citizens commute to New York City every day for work. While this commute is common, it is important remember that New Jersey is a wonderful, worthy place to live and can rival New York in more ways then one.
