UK plans to provide its citizens with national ID smart cards, so that any hassle about their identification can be avoided. On Dec 19, 2006, the UK govt. delivered to its Parliament a sketch of a smart card-based national ID (identity card) that could finally be carried by 60 million citizens of Britain & other foreign nationals staying in England. According to the plan, identity cards will be made compatible with the e-passports being distributed in England and in other parts of the world, and other chip-&-PIN smart cards that banks of UK have issued over the last few years to their credit & debit cardholders. UK Home Office spokesperson Peter Wilson states that the smart card-based national ID card helps citizens in proving their identity as residents of UK and open bank accounts. He added that banks use Britain's passports as documents of personal identification, for which they pay fees to govt. offices to verify that the passport is valid & not reported stolen or lost. As per the RNCOS report "CCTV Market Update (2006-2007)", Increasing threat to worldwide security, stable desire for personal protection, and acceptance of new technologies is providing the security surveillance equipment market unlimited opportunity for the potential.
